Artist Statement
1. My goals and intentions for this piece were to make the picture of my dog look fun and cartoon-like. I was trying to show the style of the printing method while still resembling the picture i took.
2. I accomplished these goals by only cutting out certain details, and printing in different bright colors.
3. My painting is about the colors and the highlights that pop because of the different layers of paint.
4. What surprised me most in accomplishing this artwork is how the different layers of prints make the piece look interesting and fun, as opposed to only doing one layer of color.
5. The most difficult challenge i had to face was getting the block carved out right.
6. I met this challenge by taking the time to cut out each line and going back and fixing the block if it didn't come out how i originally intended.
7. I think my painting really "works" in the layering by the mouth and the different color fur by her nose.
8. Something I have learned that I can bring into my next paining is the technique I used to get that layering effect, and maybe next time I could add more layers with more details
9. Another artist in the class that I learned something from was Gabbi, when she used the almost 3-D effect on her print.
10. If I had a do-over I would have made more base prints before I cut the block so I could add more layered colors
11. I feel best about how the picture pops with the bright colors and yet you can still see that it's my little dog.
